This project is inspired by a complex kingfisher hairpin from the Qing Dynasty. It makes me wonder: what are its functional parts and what are its decorative parts? The composition of decoration and function is one of the main features of jewellery design. In the case of this hairpin I decide to take a deconstructive approach: What if the organisation of function and decoration parts is exchanged? This approach is trying to explore a
new form
while keeping its features of traditional handicraft.
